Tyco to sell wireless systems to Harris

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Tyco Electronics Ltd. has agreed to sell its wireless systems business to government contractor Harris Corp. for $675 million in cash.

The Bermuda-based maker of electronic components and undersea telecommunications systems said yesterday the sale will help it focus on its core connectivity business.

The deal is expected to close this summer. Tyco Electronics says it will report the wireless systems unit as a discontinued operation starting in its fiscal third quarter ending June 26.

It also says it expects to report an operating loss of $3.6 billion to $4.1 billion for its fiscal second quarter.
