Governor and Premier to team up at London event

Premier Paula Cox and Governor Sir Richard Gozney will team up to spearhead efforts to attract British investors next month when they attend the annual Bermuda Financial Services Conference in London.

The event, which is organised by Business Bermuda, will feature an Offshore Summit panel featuring Sir Richard, Bermuda Monetary Authority CEO Jeremy Cox and Bermuda Stock Exchange CEO Greg Wojciechowski.

Premier Cox will deliver a keynote speech to “provide insight on the state of Bermuda's economy and its standing vis-à-vis other jurisdictions”, Business Bermuda said in a statement yesterday.

The conference will take place at the Mandarin Oriental, in Hyde Park on Thursday, April 7.

“Business Bermuda is actively and aggressively marketing Bermuda as a financial centre for international business globally,” said Cheryl Packwood, CEO of Business Bermuda. “After last year's hugely successful and inaugural Bermuda Financial Services conference, we are delighted to return to London to update attendees on Bermuda's progress in its product offering and regulatory approach.”

The panel discussion, which will be moderated by Pamela Burrows, Assistant Financial Secretary at Ministry of Finance, will discuss Bermuda's key benefits and provide insight on its position in the global community.

The afternoon will include a series of informative panel presentations and discussions on business developments and opportunities in Bermuda. The Bermuda delegation will include lawyers, regulators and financial service representatives, who will be on hand to offer an overview of the benefits of Bermuda and to lead a series of focused break-out sessions.

Panels of industry experts will explain current developments in the jurisdiction and address key issues including tax policy, regulation and Bermuda's role in financial services.

The Hedge Funds, Private Equity and Investments seminar will address the introduction of the EU Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive, the standards and regulations of which Bermuda is already set to meet.

For the first time, the event will also offer an exclusive panel session on Islamic Finance, which will be moderated by Belaid Jheengoor from PricewaterhouseCoopers.
