Euromoney: Bermuda is safest financial haven in Caribbean region

By Marina MelloBermuda is the safest place to put your money in the Caribbean region, according to the latest survey released by Euromoney.Cuba, followed by Antigua, are the worst.The European magazine said Bermuda’s political risk score is now higher than the average score for EU member states.The quarterly survey moves Bermuda up one place from ranking 33rd in the world to 32nd out of 186 countries, giving it a risk score of 69 in its Q3 study.That puts the Island ahead of Spain, UAE, Brazil and Ireland across a range of political, economic and structural risk criteria.The 250 economists surveyed also judged Bermuda to be less risky than either the Bahamas, Barbados, St Lucia or Trinidad & Tobago.The Island’s ranking will be welcome news for the lucrative offshore financial services and banking sector.
