The Tourism Department and Fairmont Southampton resort are playing host to the “Successful Meetings University” event for the convention and meeting industry’s top planners and suppliers.Around 60 people are here for the three-day event, which showcases Bermuda’s meeting facilities and offerings.Planners and suppliers will attend educational workshops; have one-on-one appointments; develop new ideas and relationships for future business and event growth; and conduct site inspections of Bermuda properties, including the Fairmont Southampton, Fairmont Hamilton Princess, Grotto Bay Beach Resort, Rosewood Tucker’s Point and Elbow Beach.“We are honoured to be hosting Successful Meetings’ educational and career-enriching event in Bermuda this year,” Tourism director William Griffith said.“Our group sales department takes great pride in highlighting what the island has to offer this segment from proximity and top-notch meeting space to a range of accommodations and diverse attractions for all types of groups. Our meeting planner attendees have expressed great excitement about coming to Bermuda to view the hotel product and learn about what there is to do here for business group programmes.”Keynote speakers include futurist and global advisor David Houle, along with Jerry Teplitz, also known as “the energy Doctor”.Mr Houle has worked for both NBC and CBS and was also part of the senior executive team that created and launched MTV, Nickelodeon, VH1 and CNN Headline News.Teplitz is considered a brain performance expert, and his one-hour session with event participants will introduce proven leading-edge, mind-body technology for effective networking.
