Employees are earning more and working less
Data released today by the Bermuda Department of Statistics indicates residents are making more even though they’re working less.Bermudians on average worked 31.7 hours per week in 2011, while non-Bermudians on the Island clocked an average of 37.7 hours a week.The median salary for Bermudians in 2011 was $56,479 compared to non-Bermudians who brought home $74,766.Both Bermudians and non-Bermudians saw an increase in pay, from 2010 to 2011.Bermudians went from working 31.9 hours a week with a median salary of $55,264 to working 31.7 hours a week and making $56,479. Non-Bermudians went from working 38.2 hours a week, making a median salary of $69,738, to working 37.7 hours and making $74,766.The jobs held the most by Bermudians were heavy-truck driver for men and executive secretary/personal assistant for women.For non-Bermudians, the job held the most by men was chef/cook and for women was registered nurse.The data also shows that in 2008, there were 40,213 jobholders in total. That number went down to 37,399 in 2011. There were 10,367 non-Bermudians working here in 2008. By 2011, that number dropped to 8,374. In the same time frame, the number of Bermudian jobholders went from 27,180 in 2008 to 26,187 in 2011.The 2012 Bermuda Labour Market Indicators report is based on the results of the annual Employment Survey data collected between 2008 and 2011.
