Small decline in retail sales

Total retail sales in June 2013 decreased 0.9 percent with consumers spending an estimated $90.4 million on retail goods during the month.Retailers of service stations experienced the largest increase in sales of 4.4 percent. In contrast, retailers of building materials reported the strongest decline of 12.7 percent year-over-year.Residents returning to the Island declared overseas purchases valued at $4.5 million during June 2013. This contributed to a combined local and overseas spending total of $94.9 million.After adjusting for the annual retail sales rate of inflation, measured at 1.4 percent in May 2013, the volume of retail sales fell by 2.2 percent.There were 25 shopping days during the month, one day less than in June 2012.
