Cup Match 2013 may have been a draw on the cricket field, but in The Royal Gazette offices there were winners — in the company’s Cup Match-themed office decoration competition.Cricketing legends Wendell Smith and Dwayne (Sluggo) Leverock joined Sports Department senior reporter Colin Thompson to make those calls.A ‘slain’ Somerset player formed the centrepiece of the winning display in the ‘team’ category, won by marketing team members Shawn-Nae Cann, Sharalle Riley and Carlene Spencer-Darrell.Ms Spencer-Darrell said: “The majority of our team are for St George’s and we all agreed that we needed to lay Somerset to rest, highlighting their prominent player Mr Cup Match.“But it seems we actually brought him to life! Next year we are going to bury him,” she joked.“It was done with a great team spirit and we all had a great time participating.”Another St George’s supporter, Nikeisha Burrows’ blue-on-blue festooned work area, won for the best desk, while Lifestyle reporter Nadia Arandjelovic won for best dressed. She said: “Once news broke around the RG office about the Cup Match competition, I was immediately excited and looking forward to the possibility of winning something.“There was some tough competition for best decorations, so I focused my attention on the best dressed category. As a long time Somerset supporter,“I had lots of red and blue outfits to choose from, but the judges tell me it was the red ribbon in my hair that really set me apart from the others in the category.“All in all it was a lot of fun and the camaraderie in the office was at an all-time high that afternoon. It was hard getting any work done!”The winners will receive gift vouchers and other prizes.
