Digicel Business powers Branson’s Necker Island

Powered by Digicel: Necker Island

Digicel has helped restore full communication to tycoon Richard Branson’s private island in the Caribbean.

Necker Island is now powered by Digicel Business in a deal that comes a result of the 2011 fire on the luxury retreat frequented by the wealthy.

The fire temporarily left Necker Island without any connectivity to the outside world.

“With all main telecoms infrastructure destroyed, Digicel Business representatives stepped in to offer their assistance,” Digicel said in a statement today.

“Despite the challenging situation, the team worked with General Manager, Kenton Jones, to help get the island connected to the internet within a matter of days followed by Dedicated Internet Access (DIA) and fixed line services a couple of weeks later.”

Mr Jones, said; “Following the fire, we were cut off to the rest of the world — at a time when communication was most needed. The Digicel team worked hard to solve our communications problems by delivering solutions in a timely manner.”

Digicel BVI Business Solutions manager, Matthew Drum, said; “Digicel Business is committed to keeping customers ahead of the game with leading technology solutions.

“We strive to help companies solve modern business issues by ensuring the correct technology is there when it’s most needed, providing peace of mind to business managers and owners across BVI and the Caribbean.”

He continued, “We were delighted to be able to deliver on that commitment with our tailored solutions for Necker Island, including implementing state of the art technologies such as Multi Point Label Switching (MPLS), Direct Internet Access (DIA) as well as Data Replication and Recovery services.”
