Mulderig puts $7m home up for sale

Spanish Grange: Luxury home with $7m price tag

A luxury home owned by a prominent Bermuda businessman is up for sale with a price tag of nearly $7 million.

Spanish Grange, in Smith’s Parish, is the home of Longtail Aviation chairman Robert Mulderig, and the former home of famous English playwright Sir Terence Rattigan, who died there in 1977.

The 10,000 square foot house, marketed by prestige property agents Sinclair Realty, boasts six bedrooms, as well as six full bathrooms and two partial ones, as well as spacious living and dining rooms and is set in three acres of ground on Knapton Hill.

Mr Mulderig, who was chairman of Butterfield Bank from 2007-12, said: “Our kids have just grown up and moved away, so we want a smaller place.

“It’s a big house for just two people — no one’s leaving. We’re just thinking about downsizing.”

Spanish Grange, described as “a family estate with a stylish 1940s soul” has South Shore ocean views, also has a home theatre/media room, a gym, steam room and cedar-panelled library.

The grounds feature a tennis court and changing room and a swimming pool with pavilion and bar.

The brick-paved entrance courtyard has a fountain and extensive garden area, while the foyer of the house still has the original black-and-white marble flooring.

The listing by Sinclair Realty says the house was built in 1947. It adds: “Room scale at Spanish Grange is amongst the most impressive we have seen in Bermuda.”
