Change on publication rules to cut RA’s costs

Economic Development Minister Grant Gibbons

Telecoms watchdog the Regulatory Authority will no longer have to publish its rulings in full in the Official Gazette.

Education and Economic Development Minister Grant Gibbons said the move would cut costs because the Authority’s rulings are often long and technical.

Dr Gibbons told the House of Assembly that the move is line with changes to allow the Bermuda Monetary Authority to stop publishing its determinations in full in print and instead flag them up and refer people to the full judgement on its website.

Dr Gibbons added: “The Regulatory Authority maintains an excellent website on which all determinations are accessible.

“Because the BMA has already set a precedent, it is logical that the Regulatory Authority should follow suit in an effort to streamline and improve its service.

“The requirement to publish the notice of the determination in the Official Gazette will remain.”
