Cynarra awarded Deloitte scholarship
A Bermudian who is counting on becoming an actuary got a step closer to her dream job with a scholarship from financial services firm Deloitte.
Cynarra Phillips has been awarded the 2014 award — worth $20,000 — after the former CedarBridge Academy pupil impressed bosses at the firm during a spell as an intern over the summer.
Ms Phillips, who is in her senior year on a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a major in actuarial science at Temple University in Philadelphia, said: “I have always enjoyed mathematics and actuarial science has many quantitative attributes that maths lovers like myself love to explore.
“I am delighted to receive the Deloitte scholarship, which will enable me to continue my studies.”
She added: “I hope to work with Deloitte in the future, upon completion of my studies.”
Deloitte Bermuda and Caribbean CEO John Johnston said the firm was committed to investing in talent through its scholarship and programmes like the Deloitte Exclusive Experience Programme (DEEP), which offers internships to promising students. Mr Johnston added: “We were pleased to have Cynarra join us as an intern this summer, where she had the opportunity to learn about the many rewarding careers Deloitte offers and I am delighted to congratulate her on receiving this year’s scholarship. We wish her every success as she pursues her studies in the field of actuarial science.”
Deloitte partner and head of actuarial, risk and analytics Liz Cunningham added: “Cynarra is extremely hard-working, dedicated and personable. It was a pleasure to work with her and I am pleased to see her continuing in her studies and wish her continued success.”
Ms Phillips left CedarBridge in 2010 with the third highest GPA in her year.
