Appleby trust expert to speak at conference

Ashley Fife is one of the speakers at the 2017 International Taxation Conference in New York City

A presentation on the US Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act and Common Reporting Standard will be given by Ashley Fife, of Appleby Bermuda, in New York City.

Mr Fife will speak at the 2017 International Taxation Conference tomorrow. His presentation is titled “How Fatca and CRS have changed the world as we knew it.”

Co-delivering the speech is Jack Brister, managing and co-founding partner of International Wealth Tax Advisors.

The session will compare the differences between the US Fatca and the CRS and explore the impact these compliance regimes are imposing on global financial markets, institutions and individual investors.

The International Taxation Conference covers critical issues pertaining to foreign investments, tax evasion, privacy entitlements and anti-money laundering initiatives.

It features eight speakers, specialist sessions and interactive case studies.

Mr Fife is a senior associate in Appleby’s Bermuda office whose practice focuses on private client and commercial trust structures with a particular emphasis on complex family office structures.

He said: “Automatic exchange of information is the latest initiative which aims to eliminate tax evasion globally. This is a laudable objective.

“However the scope of exchange of information under CRS in particular raises serious questions about data protection, privacy and the safety of tax compliant individuals.

“I am excited to be representing Appleby and to be speaking alongside Mr Brister at the conference.”
