Chance to win $2,500 stock portfolio

Readers of The Royal Gazette will get the chance to win a $2,500 portfolio of Bermudian stocks, as Bermuda participates in the International Organisation of Securities Commissions' World Investor Week to be held globally from October 1 to 7.

Quiz questions will be embedded in a series of six articles bearing the WIW logo from Monday to Saturday of next week.

Those answering all six correctly will be entered into a draw with a chance to win the prize.

The BSX is taking the lead in promoting World Investor Week in Bermuda.

Greg Wojciechowski, chief executive officer of the BSX, said: “The international initiative's aim is to increase awareness of the importance of investor education and protection, so it aligns perfectly with our ongoing ‘Own Your Share of Bermuda' investor education programme.”

Mr Wojciechowski added: “In addition to complementing our national initiative, World Investor Week provides the Exchange with yet another opportunity to collaborate with many of the world's leading exchanges and securities regulators and puts Bermuda front and centre on the world stage, joining 81 other countries in participating in the event.”

Reinforcing the importance of Bermuda's participation, the Bermuda Monetary Authority, an ordinary member of Iosco, has also thrown its support behind the campaign.

Marcia Woolridge-Allwood, BMA senior adviser — banking, trust, corporate services and investments, said: “The BMA is pleased to continue our support for the Iosco's World Investor Week and we congratulate the BSX for spearheading and organising events with our global peers on this notable initiative.”

For helpful information on becoming an informed investor, the BMA will publish a “Smart Investor” tip list on the BMA website, under “Quick Links” on the BMA homepage.

The CFA Society Bermuda will also be supporting the event through its membership. CFA Society president Shane English said: “The CFA Institute is one of five global supporting organisations and the CFA Society Bermuda is pleased to lend its support to the domestic market.

“We are always happy to promote programmes that further the CFA's mission, which includes enhancing investor education, one of the key messages for the 2018 WIW initiative.”

Following on the success of last year's World Investor Quiz, the BSX has partnered with The Royal Gazette to run the RG/BSX WIW Quiz Challenge. Last year Tim Kikuvi was the winning reader.

Jonathan Kent, the paper's business editor, said: “The Royal Gazette is happy to support the BSX in this investor education initiative once again. It can only be a good thing for our readers to be more informed on the investment opportunities that exist locally, especially the chance to own a piece of the household-name companies that list on the BSX.

“We will run a full week of articles by experts on various aspects of investment. Each piece will bear the WIW logo and each will have a quiz question embedded within. All the articles will appear in print and on our website at www.royalgazette.com.

“The very special prize of a $2,500 BSX securities portfolio certainly encouraged great interest in last year's quiz and we are hopeful of a similar response this time.”

Mr Wojciechowski added: “Over its 47-year history, the BSX has remained committed and loyal to the Bermuda domestic capital market and participating in events such as the WIW is just one more way for us to continue to contribute to the economic growth and prosperity of Bermuda's economy.”

Details on how to enter the quiz appear under the heading of Related Media on this webpage and on the BSX website, www.bsx.com
