Seven local students got a first hand look at the insurance industry thanks to a summer internship programme at Liberty Specialty Mutual.

“The LSM Bermuda Summer Internship Experience is designed to develop the students’ interest in the insurance industry and to equip them with the necessary tools needed to thrive in the corporate world by exposing them to real projects consistent with the latest industry trends and provide them with a valuable and meaningful work experience,” a company spokesman said.

The 12-week programme included goal setting based on both professional and personal development, with outlined measurable goals to ensure that students were able to understand the foundations of Insurance and the complete process of providing an insurance product from submission to binding.

Representatives from each department presented weekly to the interns providing an opportunity to learn about each department and how they played a key role in the success of Liberty.

This year’s students included Nicole Amaral, excess casualty, Arisha Butterfield, claims, Tashae Trott, healthcare, Aidan Thorne, property, Rhys Kittleson in financial lines, Aariyen Murray, claims/legal and Jameko Gomes, IT.

“We’ve loved having our #LSMBermuda summer interns for 2019 in our Bermuda office for the past 12 weeks,” the spokesman said. “Thank you to Nicole, Arisha, Tashae, Aidan, Rhys, Aariyen and Jameko for all their hard work across multiple departments and we hope you’ve all enjoyed learning about the insurance industry and gaining insight into the corporate world.”

Our summer intern programme is designed to engage students in real work, providing a sound understanding of the insurance industry and to showcase the varying career possibilities across departments within Liberty and the broader insurance Industry.”
