People interested in a masonry career are encouraged to sign up for an upcoming masonry apprenticeship training programme.

The class is being run by the Department of Workforce Development in partnership with the Bermuda College/Pace, and the Construction Association of Bermuda.

It will include classroom and on-the-job learn-and-earn training and various learning and teaching techniques to accommodate various learning styles.

Employers and current and new employees are invited to participate. Components will cover the knowledge, skills and competencies at Level 1, Level 2, &and Level 3 using the National Centre for Construction Education and Research masonry curriculum in partnership with industry experts.

Lovitta Foggo, Minister of Labour, Community Affairs and Sport, was pleased at the collaboration between the three entities to train individuals with an interest in the masonry industry.

“We know that the construction industry is a vital contributor to our economy and a significant employer of local tradesmen,” Ms Foggo said. “And we recognise the construction association’s commitment to Bermuda’s workforce. Over the years, they have demonstrated a true dedication providing learning and development opportunities for Bermudians in the construction industry.

“This is an exciting time and opportunity for interested Bermudians because masons at all levels are in high demand to meet the current and future construction needs in the workforce. The masonry training programme is designed to develop tradesmen at various levels to become qualified and experienced. So we are encouraging anyone who wishes to further their skills and training to register for this upcoming course.”

There will be an information session on September 19 in the Department of Workforce Development training room from 5.30 to 6.30pm.

The course starts in the Bermuda College Tech Hall on September 24.
