American International Group has donated $35,000 to community efforts to help those most impacted by the Covid-19 crisis.

The US-based insurance giant with a 70-year history on the island gave the money to the Bermuda Community Foundation’s Covid-19 Emergency Fund.

Cathy Duffy, AIG Bermuda country manager, said: “While AIG is a global company, the value of its Bermuda presence cannot be overstated. As such, we are pleased to be able to offer support to the Bermuda community and hope that our contribution to the BCF is used expeditiously to provide relief to those most seriously impacted by Covid-19.

“Given AIG’s longstanding presence in Bermuda, we are confident that the resilience of our island will shine through at this challenging time and that we will emerge on the other side a stronger and more unified community.”

In a statement the company described the donation as “an initial contribution” and said: “In unprecedented times such as these, it is more important than ever to acknowledge the many benefits the island provides.

“We sincerely hope that this contribution will help Bermuda manage through this difficult period and allow it to return to safety and prosperity in the near term.”
