The Bermuda Fry-Angle Fish Keepers and Breeders Club was founded by Craig Morfitt in 1990 as a forum for tropical fish enthusiasts. It had a membership of approximately 40, and its first show took place at the Freemasons Hall on Reid Street on March 10, 1990.
Today, the annual tradition continues, but the name of the organisation has been changed to the Bermuda Fry-Angle Aquarium Society, and its membership and activities have expanded.
Membership is open to all Bermuda residents with a genuine interest in home aquaria and tropical fish. The fee is $20 per year, which includes a monthly newsletter, regular meetings on the third Wednesday of each month, with overseas guest speakers brought in three to four times a year.
Active members receive a ten percent discount on supplies at Noah’s Ark. Activities include a home tank competition with entrants competing for the ‘Best Tank’ trophy, and the annual tropical fish show.
The president is founder Craig Morfitt, and the vice-president and treasurer is Nyon Steede.
[bul] The Society’s annual tropical fish show will be held on November 18 in the education rooms of the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. General admission to the Aquarium will automatically include entry to the show, and entitle each person to a free raffle ticket for a fish tank and stand donated by Noah’s Ark. Competitors can rent ten-gallon fish tanks for $2, but can also bring larger ones themselves for their own ‘Best in Class’ trophy. Only one fish per tank is permitted.
