<Bz30>Nutritionist set to hold family seminar
Crash diets are not the answer to lifelong weight control and healthy eating, according to a clinical nutritionist visiting the Island later this month.
Kim Jenks, a clinical nutritionist and psychotherapist, says a healthy, everyday eating plan is what Bermudian families need, and she will be holding a half-day nutrition workshop on April 28 in conjunction with the Family Centre.
The seminar will be held at 25 Point Finger Road, Paget in the centre’s building and interested participants can register for $30.
Stephanie Guthman, acting clinical director of The Family Centre said: “The workshop was really well received when held last October.
“We are encouraging members of the public to take an active interest in nutrition and your child.”
Topics of the workshop will include menu planning, purchasing healthy food and weight management by creating an eating plan for life — not a drastic diet.
Ms Jenks will also focus on resolving health issues for Bermuda’s youth such as diabetes and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) by balancing blood sugar levels and other dietary ideas.
The workshop is for adults, especially families with children between the ages of four and 11, and Ms Guthman said if anyone interested in attending has trouble organising childcare, they should contact The Family Centre for help.
