Get set for a fun-filled day of art related activities when the tenth annual Butterfield Bank Art Festival is held next month at the Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art in the Botanical Gardens.

The festival has become a favourite among professional artists and amateur art-fanciers, not only because of its child-friendly art activities and 'Quick Art' contest, but also because entrants have a chance to win prizes at the 'Judge's Choice' and 'People's Choice' art awards.

The theme for this year's contest is 'Bermuda is Another World' and it is open to all from seven-year-olds up to professional artists.

The festival commonly receives as many as 160 entries each year.

Art will not be the only activity at the May 20 event. There will be entertainment by way of a performing arts stage for live music, as well as food and ice cream, face painting and opportunities to "have-a-go' with creative activities, including 'Painters Hat Painting' and mural painting.

Tents will be erected as a precaution against showers on the day.

Those interested in submitting artwork for display and judging can pick up entry forms from branches of Butterfield Bank, galleries like Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art, Bermuda National Gallery and Bermuda Society of Arts or shops including Frameworks, Artcetera and Rock Island Coffee.

There is a $5 entry fee to submit art of any medium, however, admission to the festival is free. The deadline for art entries is Friday, May 4.

Butterfield Bank president and chief executive officer Alan Thompson said: "Butterfield Bank has been supporting the arts in Bermuda for the last decade by supporting annual Art Festivals. We are pleased to have contributed to this worthy cause.

"We also help promote excellence in this field by each year offering two Butterfield Bank Visual Art Awards worth $10,000. The purpose of these Awards is to provide financial assistance and encourage suitably qualified Bermudians to further their studies in the arts. The Butterfield Bank Art Festival and the Butterfield Bank Visual Art Awards are parts of the focus on community that is at the heart of the culture of Butterfield Bank."

The art festival on Sunday, May 20 runs from noon to 5 p.m.
