St. George's Foundation releases fifth calendar
The St. George's Foundation released its fifth calendar this week in an effort to raise funds for an Old Town revitalisation project.
Thirteen Bermudian artists contributed works for the calendar which is intended to raise funds for St. George's final push of revitalisation in advance of Bermuda's 400th anniversary celebrations in 2009.
Artwork for the calendar was selected from entries from Bermuda Society of Arts artists, with 13 selections made.
"This is our very first 13-month calendar and we want to make this our most successful calendar year ever," said executive director of the St. George's Foundation Sharon Jacobs.
"The Foundation is delighted to have participated with the local artists in creating a new look while staying true to the motto of the St. George's Foundation's — 'Bringing History to Life'.
"As part of the commitment to 'Bring History to Life,' the St. George's Foundation is pleased to work in partnership with the Bermuda Society of Arts to create this beautiful calendar.
"We sincerely thank the artists who have provided such beautiful artwork, which reflects the Town of St. George's in its images and Bermuda overall in its colours."
Victoria Evans, Bermuda Society of Arts director, said she was pleased the Foundation had pitched the idea during the society's 55th anniversary year.
"It was a pleasure to be working with the St. George's Foundation. This was a chance to keep history alive and art alive in Bermuda," she said.
"The original pictures will stay here and some are for sale if the public would like to visit the gallery."
The Bermuda Society of Arts Gallery is located on the second floor of City Hall and visiting hours are Tuesday through Saturday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
The first run of the calendar will create 2,500 copies and can be purchased at different retailers around the Island for $12. If you would like to buy the calendar in bulk you can contact the Foundation at 297-8043.
