Kite surfing training camp for children
Kite surfing instructor Gray Robinson is holding a kite training camp for children on Saturday and Sunday, May 19 and 20, through SurfShack Watersports Centre, Bermuda's kite surfing school, as part of his ongoing work with Bermuda's youth.
Teams of four children will receive instruction at three separate times throughout the day, wind conditions permitting, when they will learn how to use small replicas of the large surfing kites.
"Their Good Friday kite skills will come in handy, but these kite are very different in performance from our Bermuda kites," Mr. Robinson said. "The environment will be very safe, and will only provide an introduction to kite surfing, as the children will not actually get in the water to kite surf."
Participants will learn safety first, then how the three-dimensional wind zone of kite surfing works, and finally the set-up and flying of these very unique performance kites.
"There will be no charge. The only thing we ask is that the children bring a smile, a snack/water and sun tan lotion," Mr. Robinson said. "Parents wishing to have their kids involved should contact me at SurfShack ([tel] 239-2995). As we can only take a limited number, participation will be on a first-call basis."
