<Bz35>Feast for the eyes:</Bz35> A celebration of homes and gardens

A welcoming frog awaits visitors to 'Marshen' on Highwood Lane, one of three Paget homes open to the public tomorrow as part of the Garden Club of Bermuda's 'Open Houses and Gardens' series.

The Garden Club of Bermuda's 'Open Houses & Gardens' programme visits Paget parish tomorrow, when three houses, 'Underwood', 'Marshen' and 'Milford', which are all in the vicinity of Lovers Lane, will be open from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

'Underwood' on the 'Inwood' estate, contains a splendid collection of Bermuda oil paintings. The house was built for former Governor of Bermuda, the late Sir Edwin Leather.

'Marshen'>is on Highwood Lane at the end of the row of houses known locally as 'The Seven Sisters' because of their architectural similarity. Its garden was a winner in last year's 'Bermuda in Bloom' competition.

'MilfordB>is a grand house on top of the hill overlooking Red Hole, and clearly visible from the City of Hamilton. It was built in 1821 and 1822, and is lived in today by descendants of the original owner.

Visitors to the homes are also encouraged to view the Paget Marsh and Boardwalk, which is jointly administered by the Bermuda Audubon Society and the Bermuda National Trust. There is also a spectacular view of the marsh from the back garden of 'Marshen'.

Parking for all three open houses and gardens will be at St. Paul's Church, 69 Middle Road, Paget.

As this is some distance from the houses, people will be driven to Lovers Lane by volunteers from the Garden Club of Bermuda. Please note: there is no entry to either Lovers Lane or the 'Inwood' estate for event traffic other than via the shuttles.

Public Transportation buses Nos. 7 and 8 run frequently, and stop at the end of Lovers Lane on Middle Road.

The Garden Club's 'Open Houses & Gardens' programme has been running continuously for over half a century. Events are held on Wednesday afternoons in May, and this year's series will continue through May 23. Proceeds of ticket sales are used to finance horticultural scholarships and environmental projects awarded by the Garden Club. For further information visit website www.gardenclubbermuda.org
