A Bermudian teenager has been placed in a top position at a military academy in the US.Former Berkeley student Javon Stovell, 17, fought off competition from 45 juniors to be named Corps Commander at Oak Ridge Military Academy in North Carolina.As the highest ranking cadet — the equivalent of head boy — Javon will be in daily charge of about 210 peers. Among a number of tasks, the teenager will lead the cadet brigade, composed of two battalions of three companies each, serve as president of the senior class and represent the corps of cadets to the administration.

As the highest ranking cadet — the equivalent of head boy — Javon will be in daily charge of about 210 peers. Among a number of tasks, the teenager will lead the cadet brigade, composed of two battalions of three companies each, serve as president of the senior class and represent the corps of cadets to the administration.

Javon has nearly completed three years at the academy and is to return for his senior and final year after the summer.

A spokesman for the academy said: "Javon Stovell, senior and Corps Commander, continues in the proud footsteps of those that came before and prepares the way for those that follow him."
