On the Arts Scene by Nancy Acton
Hair in art lecture at BNG today
This evening at the Bermuda National Gallery, hair in art will be the topic of the final PartnerRe art lecture in the current series, when Ori Z. Soltes, Goldman professorial lecturer in Fine Arts and Theology at Georgetown University, returns by popular demand to explore the way in which art reflects changing moods and modes of hairstyle across history and geography from antiquity to the present day, from the Middle East to Africa and the Far East, and from Europe to America. The lecture also considers how a hairstyle in art can convey a message, and how this message can change when adopted by another culture.
The evening begins with a reception at 5.30 p.m., followed by the lecture at 6 p.m. Tickets (BNG members $10, others $20) are available from the BNG box office.
