Girls Gone Wild creator sued for sexual harassmentLOS ANGELES (AP) — A former sales representative for Mantra Films Inc. and Girls Gone Wild has filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against the two companies, their founder, Joe Francis, and another individual.Tranae Hammond claims in the lawsuit filed Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court that she was the victim of repeated acts of sexual harassment by a supervisor named Ron and was fired after coming forward. Francis, who makes an estimated $29 million a year from videos of young women exposing their breasts and being shown in other sexually provocative situations, wasn’t accused of any direct sexual harassment.
The lawsuit alleges he improperly managed the companies and took no steps to investigate or take preventative action against Ron’s alleged actions. Ron’s last name was listed as “unknown” in the lawsuit. Francis, 34, is in jail in Reno, Nev., in a federal tax evasion case. He was taken into custody May 14 in Florida after serving a criminal contempt sentence in a separate civil matter.
An e-mail message to a media representative for Mantra Films wasn’t immediately returned Tuesday. According to court papers, Ron touched and massaged Hammond’s shoulders and arms, frequently spoke about sex in front of her, and on at least one occasion “tapped (her) buttocks with a clipboard” creating a hostile work environment. The lawsuit also seeks class action status for claims including failure to pay overtime, failure to provide required meal and rest periods, and failure to maintain required records.Movie of Sex and the City’ appears in the works
New Line Cinema is close to inking a deal to finance and distribute the film in association with HBO, John Smith, a representative at New Line, confirmed Thursday. Daily Variety reported the news Wednesday. Smith said its report was accurate and did not provide further details.
The four principal actresses — Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon — will reprise their roles. Michael Patrick King, who executive-produced the series, is slated to direct.
The making of a “Sex and the City” movie has been bandied about since the show left the air. There have been reports that the delay was due in some part to Cattrall, who played the sex-obsessed Samantha Jones, asking for a higher salary and creative input.Miss New Jersey won’t give in to blackmailMOUNT LAUREL, N.J. (AP) — Miss New Jersey says she won’t give in to an anonymous threat that personal photographs of her will be made public if she refuses to relinquish her crown.“It would certainly be easier for me to simply succumb to these unlawful and immoral threats, and quietly disappear,” Amy Polumbo said Thursday at a news conference in Asbury Park.
Polumbo’s lawyer, Anthony Caruso, said that starting last week, Polumbo, her family and officials in the Miss New Jersey Education Foundation received packages with pictures of her and the demand that she resign by Friday.
Caruso said the pictures show her with some friends and some may have been photos that she posted years ago on a private Internet site.
