Aquarium exhibits named after donors

The Bermuda Zoological Society has dedicated exhibits at the Natural History Museum to the donors who helped to give them a home.

The exhibits range from an Introduction to Bermuda to a People’s Mural, and were made possible through the Society’s Capital Campaign.

The Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo at Flatts is one of the Island’s most popular attractions. It is managed by the Department of Conservation Services but is also supported by the charities The Bermuda Zoological Society and The Friends of the Bermuda Aquarium (a US- incorporated organisation).

The Bermuda Zoological Society aims to support development, education and research, and organises special exhibits and activities for the community. Its mission is “to inspire appreciation and care of island environments”.

Individuals and businesses who helped to facilitate the construction of the Natural History Museum were thanked in a dedication ceremony on Thursday.

Lynda Johnson, Director of Development, said: “Without the support of generous donors such as these, the Bermuda Zoological Society would be unable to provide world-class exhibits like those found in the Natural History Museum.

“The quality of these exhibits has now set the standard for exhibitry at the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo (BAMZ) and our current Capital Campaign will help us to achieve this standard throughout the facility.

“Our donors are the backbone of this organisation and it is a pleasure to dedicate these exhibits to our longstanding supporters. We hope that they get as much pleasure from these displays as our guests have, since we opened the new Natural History Museum.”

In a dedication ceremony, the exhibits teamed with donors were: Introduction to Bermuda — Allied World Assurance Company; People’s Mural — Supermart Limited; Conservation Management Room — Bank of Bermuda Foundation; Collections Room — Mr. and Mrs. George Peterich; Pocket Theatre — W.P. Stewart; Natural History Mural — The Argus Group.
