The Lido dining and entertainment general manager Ennio Lucarini is pleased that the renovations are finally finished.

He spoke to The Royal Gazette about the future plans for the Complex. “Mickeys is established with its daily specials and so far it has had a good response.

“All this now is positive and it is complemented by the management and everyone else around, because they share the same enthusiasm. It is a feeling of achievement at this point. Everyone participates through a lot of this and that is the way we do it.”

For Mickeys guests can enjoy private beach dining.

“It is in front of the restaurant down near the water,” he said.

“We take requests for that it is not on a large scale, as we don’t want to lose the originality. But we do it for couples and up to six or eight people.

“We organise things like that and everything is served from the restaurant. In cases like that we assign waiters and butler specifically for the table.”

On the wine front, if patrons want a vintage that is not on the wine list, Mr. Lucarini says it is mostly possible for them to get it.

“We have a fully comprehensive wine list and others that are exclusive to us,” he explained.

“While there are others that we scout and bring in ourselves and they are very original type of findings. We also provide bottles that are not necessarily on our wine list or on the Island.

“For one client we flew in one bottle for this particular client, so things like that can be organised because we have a good network and we have people that work here with us who have a good knowledge of wine and of food.”

On how he became a restaurateur, he said: “I have been in this business since I was a kid, because it was in the family.

“Then I studied in fields of food production and processing, especially cheeses and these kinds of things. At the end of the day being in this type of business will take you anywhere in the world.

“I was lucky to be offered a position in Bermuda about 20 years ago and I took it on. I have a beautiful child and it is a lovely place to live.

“I believe in Bermuda as much as all of my colleagues, otherwise we wouldn’t be spending all of this energy, money and time.”
