The HOTT 107.5 FM standing room only event featured not only the world-renowned motivational speaker Mr. Brown, it also featured Dr. Marcia Harris, whose message was charity begins at home, Erika McKay who told the audience that the graveyard was full of well-intentioned people, Anthony Foster spoke about the importance of goal setting, and last, but not least, Tony Chapman who insisted that people get to the crux of their dreams.

The seminar was held in the Whitney Institute auditorium and although the majority of the audience was of African descent, the message was not black, it was not white, it was simply designed for everyone in attendance to empower themselves.

The mistress of ceremonies was none other than HOTT 107.5 FM?s evening presenter Ms Thang a.k.a. Kristy Burgess, who wowed the crowds with her personal testimonies.

Sia Spence the Bermuda Idol 2005 winner and Larita Adderley, another contestant, performed during the evening.

The first to speak was Anthony Foster who highlighted the importance of writing down your goals.

He had attended a motivation camp and while there he had written down ten of the things he had wanted to accomplish within the following year. When he returned a year later, he found that he had accomplished eight out of the ten.

He went on to say that the greatest source of wealth that any can have is between the ears.

Tony Chapman, who referred to himself as the ?oracle of the obvious?, pointed out that on a daily basis people are bombarded by marketing messages.

?It is a situation of if you wear these, if you eat these, if you invest in these, it?ll make you happy!?

He added that most people think, ?Oh, I want to be rich? but they don?t know what they really want. His suggestion was to ?find something that touches your very soul, you will work all the time, because work won?t feel like work?.

Mr. Chapman also told people ?do not to be trained by the chains?. But contrary to popular thought, he did not mean the physical or mental chains of slavery. Instead, he used an analogy of how elephants are trained in relation to people who had previously failed and had stopped fighting for their dreams.

He also provided simple ways of remaining in top spirits, he advice was to stand tall and smile. He had the crowd do the exercise and it was difficult to think of a depressing thought and maintain it while smiling.

Erika McKay?s motto was success is a legacy, but she drew reference from a study that was conducted on a group of 100 people over a 40 year period.

She said: ?They all started out on an even playing field at age 25. But 40 years later only one of them had become rich, four became financially independent, five were still working at the age of retirement, 41 were dead and the rest, believe it or not, were all dead broke!

?They all had good ideas, but the difference was their mindset. You have to know that you are here to do something important and you can?t leave this earth until you do it ? graves are filled with people who had good intentions. We are not here to give you new ideas, we are here to inspire you, to root out what you have, and to do something with it.?

Dr. Marcia Harris, an obstetrician/gynaecologist, came to the realisation of needing to put herself first after she had a near death experience.

?We have been socialised to think we are selfish if we think about ourselves first. But guess what? Charity begins at home, and if we are not around we can?t take care of anybody else.?

She said after her traumatising ordeal, she returned home to New York, got rid of her husband, stopped delivering babies and began exercising.

?Don?t wait for a wake up call,? she said, ?You owe it to yourself to take care of yourself and to make you health your number one priority.

?It is hard to change, but you have to do what you have to do. You have to make a commitment and once you have made it, make a commitment to your commitment.?

Many of us have heard the quote ?shoot for the moon; even if you miss you will land on the stars?. We also probably associate it with the late Dr. Norman Vincent Peale, but it was a quote written by Les Brown.

Mr. Brown told the audience that his high school teacher had taken his class of 27 students to see Dr. Peale.

After that they wrote him letters and the above is a quote that Mr. Brown had written to Dr. Peale.

Some 37 years later, they were destined to meet again, but not as special education student and world-renowned speaker, but as equals. Mr. Brown said when he entered backstage and was introduced to Dr. Peale, who asked if he was the little boy from Miami, who had written the quote that he now used.

Over the course of his career, Mr. Brown also travelled with Donald Trump on Millionaires in Training.

In these seminars they spoke to mainly white audiences across Europe, Asia and the United States, but he said, it wasn?t until he met Elroy Smith one of the HOTT 107.5 owners, that he began doing events for African Americans.

Mr. Brown told many stories of his character and wealth building experiences, but one of the most visual and shock-into-reality questions he asked was: ?If you died tonight, what dreams, what talents, what abilities, will die with you?

?Live full and die empty. Don?t take your talents, your gifts, and your dreams to the grave with you.?

But above all else Mr. Brown?s main aim is to train world-class speakers because he says: ?There is no success without successors, everything you do for yourself you take to the grave, but everything you do for others you leave behind.?

All in all, it was a night that didn?t just make you laugh and think little, it was a night which inspired action ? something that will make many ?click in 06?.
