Artist presents work to Premier

The Masterworks Foundation Artist in Residence David Samuels presented one of his dioramas to Premier Alex Scott.

The dioramas entitled ?Fish Mongers? was donated by the Masterworks Foundation. Mr. Samuels and his wife Evelyn were last in Bermuda 52 years ago on their honeymoon. They said the Island had changed dramatically, but said: ?In many ways we feel the changes are for the better.

?On our honeymoon we stayed at the Sunset Lodge on the North Shore, (which was one of the few places that tourists of African descent could stay while visiting the Island).

Masterworks curator Elise Outerbridge said: ?We had the delightful pleasure to host David and Evelyn during the summer.

?David is one of the most interesting human beings we have had the pleasure of hosting and in turn, an artist genuinely interested in absorbing all of the cultural and human interest aspects of the Island.

?The culmination of his residency was an exhibition of the dioramas he had created, some of which highlighted world events such as bull fighting and tennis matches as well as his depictions of very Bermudian events like Cup Match and the ducking stool.?

Mr. Samuels? exhibition was held in the Rose Garden Gallery.
