Artwork brightens up KEMH
As a way of brightening up King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, the Masterworks Foundation and Axis Capital chief executive officer John Charman donated artwork to the institution.
The artwork has been displayed for patients and visitors alike, said Masterworks director Tom Butterfield.
Mr. Charman sponsored the purchase of some paintings from the Masterworks Collection.
?Through the kind generosity of Mr. Charman, it was possible for the Masterworks Foundation to donate 53 paintings to be hung in KEMH,? said Mr. Butterfield.
Of the donation, Mr. Charman said: ?I am delighted to be able to bring some wonderful Bermudian artwork back into our community.
?I cannot think of a more appropriate setting than the hospital; I hope both patients and staff will be invigorated by this magical collection painted by many of our local artists.
?My thanks go to Masterworks for assembling this marvellous collection.?
This is a great opportunity to reach a very wide audience, added Mr. Butterfield. ?One that probably every Bermudian will come in touch with one way or another.?
The art donated was inspired by Bermuda and created by both local and overseas artists.
?The artwork was in storage awaiting the opening of Masterworks new museum next fall,? said Mr. Butterfield. ?This is a way that the artwork can be seen and appreciated sooner.?
KEMH chief executive officer David Hill said the hospital was grateful for the donation of these wonderful pieces of art.
?Not only will it enable people in Bermuda to enjoy the collection, but it will help us in creating a soothing, healing environment for patients and visitors at the hospital,? he said.
