Auditions for Learnalots at Cathedral Hall

Auditions for one of Bermuda's longest running television will take place tomorrow at the Cathedral Hall.

The Learnalots is a locally produced information-based programme targeted at young people. Over the years the Learnalots have explored Bermuda visiting people and places, including: the Governor, National Dance Company, Bermuda Broadcasting Company and The Royal Gazette.

It continues to be a source of information that otherwise might not get into the mainstream media.

Topics also encourage positive attitudes and habits in young people such as road safety, recycling and careers. Other subjects have included cultures of Bermuda, the Town of St. George's, International Business and marine life.

Potential Learnalots must be between eight and ten, inquisitive, able to ask questions on their own, be confident in front of a video camera, able to learn a few lines, outgoing, friendly and interested and committed for two to three years.

The auditions will consist of a group interview. Students will be presented with a scenario and asked to come up with questions. They might be shown objects and asked what they find interesting about them. All children wanting to participate need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian and arrive between 3.30 p.m. and 7.30 p.m.

Panatel works closely with Heather Whalen, senior community and cultural affairs officer, of the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs, which sponsors the series, in choosing cast and deciding on the topics.

Originally the idea of Reimar Fiedler, a partner of Panatel VDS Ltd., the show has been a catalyst for many former Learnalots pursuing successful careers in theatre and the media.

Panatel also produces another long-running series, Treasures, which focuses on Bermuda's seniors and their stories.
