Bigger, better and more hilarious
The Queen of Bermuda Ms Sybil Barrington and her girls put on a dramatic and entertaining show on Saturday night.
During her interview she promised that the shows would get bigger and better and if this was an example of that ? the show certainly was bigger, better and more hilarious than the July performance.
Some of the performers included Ms Kenya Black, who Miss Barrington referred to as a ?ravin? beauty?, Josephine Ascento, Princess Onika Van Hamburg, Miss Michaela Crysal, Miss Bermuda 1991 Diva Elizabeth Sanchez the Third, Miss Michelle Dupree, Miss Luscious, Miss Kit Holiday and Miss Tyra Colbaire.
The female impersonators at the Blow Pop Production, in City Hall Theatre, on Saturday night, wore a host of skimpy and not so skimpy outfits for the show. They performed everything from rock to reggae with a few jazz, soul and gospel classics tossed in for good measure.
Miss Michelle Dupree played the singer/actress Marilyn Monroe with quivering lips et al ? the impersonation was excellent. She had on a ?to die for? ivory silk gown with sequins and stones.
Miss Barrington lip synced to a Patti LaBelle number, while Miss Kenya Black, who hails from California, came out in shorty short blue boy shorts, pink stockings and an orangy coloured top.
She shook herself up the aisle and onto a few unsuspecting audience members laps.
Miss Kit Holiday, who sang songs from jazz diva Billy Holiday, was an older woman, but she came out with pure drama in her little 1930s red revealing dress with a few flowers in her hair.
As Cher, donned in rhinestones and drawstringed-legged trousers, was Miss Michaela Crystal. She was impressive and from a distance one could have easily been confused by the resemblance.
The last time Miss Luscious performed in Bermuda was during the Clay House Inn days, said Miss Barrington. She she wound up her hips and waved with intensity as she performed dancehall moves like Signal de Plane and others.
Wearing a hot pink dress and while seated on a chair with candles at her feet, Tyra Colbaire lip synced to Sweet Love by Anita Baker.
Just One Thing by Amerie was carried off graciously by Princess Onika Van Hamburg, while local Miss Josephine Ascento danced about the stage in a white wedding gown ? train and all ? to Cindy Lauper?s Girls Just Want to Have Fun.
The audience screamed for her although she got into a little trouble with Miss Sybil for raising her dress a little too high.
Miss Victoria Sanchez the Third dressed in a black see through slip dress performed a bit of gospel.
Slipping from out of the curtains was Miss Kenya Black again. This time she was in a little hot pink tankini with matching bikini bottoms to finish the ensemble. What happened next will remain ?in the show?.
Miss Michelle Dupree came back out with something completely different. This time she was sporting a fitted jacket that was draped with red and silver sequins and a ten-inch high wig, while she lip synced Original Sin by INXS to screaming and applause.
Shirley Bassey?s song I Am What I Am, which became a gay torch song, was performed with all the style and class of the great Welsh diva by Miss Kit Holiday.
A performance of Lil Kim by Miss Luscious was highlighted when she came out dressed in classic non-suicidal orange overalls with jailbird written on the front.
She soon removed her gear only to reveal a sexy black leather number with chains all over.
Not last and not at all least was a futuristic performance by Miss Michaela Crysal, who with dramatic effect, performed Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of These) by Annie Lennox.
She wore a silver bodysuit, with a mirrored corset, shockingly blue contact lenses, and an expanding and contracting silver-grey headpiece.
There were several other great performances by all, but far too many to mention in this piece. All in all it was a great night filled with laughter and Barrington-filled drama.
