Tuesday's terrorism tragedy in the US even affected Saturday's Sandcastle competition at Horseshoe Bay with the family winners incorporating a flag with a dove into their design.

Organiser Nicky Gurret said of the The Horsefield family's effort: "It was a really good entry."

Julian Fletcher and Ian McBeath picked up the children's prize with their dolphin design while Matcham and Matcham graphic design company won the company category with their Buddha reproduction.

Mrs. Gurret said: "There were about three Buddhas this year."

The 25 entries included Flatts Village, a cruise ship, an apple pie, a pyramid, dogs, churches and mice in a maze.

"Everybody had a great day," said Mrs. Gurret.
