Cahows land starring role in documentary
The revival of the Cahow population in Bermuda will be the focus of a documentary filmed by an award-winning wildlife filmmaker.
Irish filmmaker Eamon de Buitlear was in Bermuda the last week of May to begin filming the documentary, 'Bermuda's Treasure Island Restored: Journey of a Lifetime'.
He is directing this first ever film about the history of Nonsuch Island and the story of the rescue of the cahow. Deirdre Brennan, the producer, has researched and been in preproduction of the film for the past four years. She is a twice Emmy nominated designer in daytime television in New York.
She conceived of the idea on a trip in 1998 when she met David Wingate and visited Nonsuch Island.
"I was amazed that no one had thought of the doing a film on the Nonsuch story before."
Ms Brennan has put together an award winning team from Ireland and plans to distribute the film on the international market when it is complete in late spring of next year.
The Bermuda Audubon Society is partnering with Ms. Brennan.
The film crew had a wonderful three days filming on the Island recently and they look forward to returning several times over the next year to complete the project.
The director of photography, Cian de Buitlear, has won an Academy Award for his work on the blockbuster film 'Saving Private Ryan'.
