Calling all painters

Those in the market for artwork ? or wishing to express their own artistic talent ? should take advantage of Masterworks Painter's Picnic this Saturday.

The annual event will take place at the Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art, Botanical Gardens from 12 noon to 3 p.m.

Curator Elise Outerbridge is encouraging all types of artists to take part in the event.

"Do not let the title put you off ? the Painter's Picnic is for all artists using any and every medium," she said. "We welcome everyone and look forward to a great turnout."

Each year the event has grown larger and larger.

"Last year many artists requested entering more works of art, so this year we are allowing each artist to bring up to five items priced at $500 or less," she added.

"We would also like to display the show for longer, as there are always those who cannot make it on the day and still would like to buy the artwork."

As always they are asking everyone to participate on the day.

"Bring your easels, paints, pastels, whatever and enjoy the inspiration of the Botanical Gardens to create works of art on the spot," Mrs. Outerbridge said.

"We actually had artists selling work right off their easels last year, and we find that the public is really interested in seeing artists at work."

This event will take place rain or shine, as all the work will be hung inside the gallery.

Lunch is free for all participating artists and will be available for purchase from DeGraff's Lunch Cart for everyone else.

The public are encouraged to bring a blanket, a picnic, a sketchpad, a camera and take part in this fun day in the Botanical Gardens.

Mrs. Outerbridge said: "It is a great way to buy affordable Bermuda artwork and enjoy the Botanical Gardens.

Artwork should be delivered to Masterworks ready to be hung, either matted or framed by 5 p.m. and it will remain on display in the gallery until October 18.

Artists should note that 25 percent of sales will go to Masterworks.
