Children to select winning films
The Bermuda International Film Festival and Butterfield Bank announced that juries comprised of local children are to select the winning films at the second annual BIFF Kids Film Festival from October 14 to 16.
?We invite children ages seven to 14 who are interested in sitting on our juries to write to us, telling us in 100-250 words why they liked a particular film that they have seen anytime in the last two years,? says Aideen Ratteray Pryse, director of BIFF Kids.
?We will read all the entries, and will select the winners based on the film reviews that have been sent to us. We will announce the winners, and the two, three-person juries will watch the films for free during the festival in October, and select the winning film in both the feature and short film categories.?
Entries must be received by Monday, September 19. Entries should be sent to BIFF, PO Box HM 2963, Hamilton HM MX, or dropped off at Butterfield Bank, Reid Street reception or at the Bermuda National Library, Youth Division, Church Street, Hamilton. Entries may be typed or handwritten neatly. Entries may also be submitted by e-mail to infobiff.bm.
Prospective jurors are reminded to include their age and contact information with their entries.
?Butterfield Bank is delighted to be the presenting sponsor of BIFF Kids again this year,? says Alan Thompson, president and CEO, Butterfield Bank. ?The first festival last year proved to be very popular, judging by the number of sold out screenings. Inviting local children to sit on the juries is a great way to involve the local community in a festival that is proving to be a terrific addition to the local arts scene for young people.?
BIFF Kids screenings will take place at the Liberty Theatre. The festival will open on Friday, October 14, and will continue through the weekend. Screening times on Saturday and Sunday will be 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. The film line-up will be announced in September.
Tickets for BIFF Kids will go on sale Friday September 30, 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the lobby of Butterfield Bank?s Reid Street branch.
They will also be on sale on Saturday October 1, Friday October 7, Saturday October 8 and Friday October 14 at the same times and location. Tickets will be available at the Liberty Theatre during the festival.
