aleigh International Bermuda students won?t be wearing ?divalicious? vintage clothing on an expedition to Borneo ? but a sale of the clothes will help to fund their expedition there this summer.

The Vintage Diva Wear Auction this Saturday evening at the Clock Tower, in Dockyard will raise funds for expedition equipment for the young people who are going to help less fortunate people in the Malaysian region this summer.

Vintage Diva Wear Auction coordinator Nicole Grant, a Whitney Institute teacher, said Raleigh allows young people to learn how to overcome challenges and obstacles.

?This charity encourages youth to live up to their fullest potential. The charity is aimed at youth between the ages of 17 and 25; there are four students from CedarBridge, four from Berkeley and three are representatives from each community youth centre.?

Ms Grant said: ?The people that have contributed have excellent style and taste.

?We have plenty of clothing to complement the majority?s size and style. The sizes range from small to large. In addition, sizes go from two through to 32, so there is something for everyone.

?The apparel also comprises of shoes and bags. The clothing appeals to all types of women, but especially ?divalicious? women.?

People have not only donated their clothing, they are also donating their time, said Ms Grant.

?Every time a woman is approached about the charity?s fundraising idea, they express how delighted they are that they have another avenue to dispose of their clothing.

?Many are interested and many have volunteered their services, so much so that we are creating a schedule that will appeal to all volunteers, as we prefer not to turn anyone away.

?This auction could not have been executed without the wonderful sponsors and volunteers within our community.?

The idea of the auction as a fun way to raise funds was coined by the Venturers (young travellers) and their mentors.

?They were asked to brainstorm for fundraising ideas,? she said, ?And at the closing of the meeting, the auction was rated as being one of the better fundraising ideas. So, I volunteered to coordinate this event.?

The name of the event says old yet chic, and it was picked by members of the committee and Ms Grant.

?So often we disperse of clothing that we have worn once or twice,? she said, ?Or we have hangers of warmer garments that keep our closets looking full, so we decided the name Vintage Wear would be ideal, as many of us are classy, trendy, fabulous, and or unique dressers, which somewhat defines a Diva, so we decided on the name of Vintage Diva Wear. Each Venturers has to raise between $500- $1,000, so the donations will be divided evenly amongst the eleven.

Ms Grant said during the evening there will be a few things going on.

?Prior to the actual auction, we will have a preview of the clothing to be auctioned and a silent auction of exquisite pieces while at the same time, light refreshments will be available.

?Of course, this will pique their interest even more before the vintage fashions are modelled. But the general idea is to auction some pieces by means of members of the community modelling pieces ranging in sizes.

?One of the models is a Venturer, some are educators, others are members of the community who love to assist charities and youth and family members.?
