Education hosts weekend of storytelling and fun

Well known Bermudian authors, guest speakers and master story-tellers will be on hand this weekend at the fourth annual education weekend at the Bermuda College.

In honour of Bermuda's Quincentennial, the theme for this year's event is "Excellence in Education Through the Years" and gives the Ministry the opportunity to tell the story of public education through Bermuda's rich and diverse history.

Present day opportunities and programmes in public education will be highlighted and the public will have the opportunity to learn more about advances in education in the future.

The Ministry will make use of this opportunity to highlight those persons within the Bermuda Public School system who have been nominated by their peers as being examples of Bermuda's Best with the "One of Bermuda's Best Awards".

The winners will be announced in the Press next week.

The Expo today starts at noon and will include a performance by the middle school Drumline as well as the St. George's Preparatory Choir.

Guest speakers at this event include Dr. Llewellyn Simmons who will talk about ways to reunite the public and education, book signings by Durinda Nusum, Ellen Kelly and David and Asante Chapman, story-telling by David Chapman, Alberta Tucker and Wendy McDonnell, while Dr. Duranda Greene from the Bermuda College will be available to talk to prospective students on getting their first degree.

There will also be a food court, prizes, contests, school displays, a Cadet Corp drill display, football games and tours of the college.
