The final episode of the ?Ya Mama? trilogy went off with a bang last weekend.

The sold out show, which was entitled ?Ya Mama: Ya Not Getting a Divorce? saw the five sisters Muriel, Dinah, Prudy, Darlene and Lovie doing their own things and mama (Marlene Somner) finally getting her space.

The plays were written and directed by Patricia Pogson-Nesbitt of THE Company. The two previous instalments were ?Ya Mama: Westgate Family Vacation? and ?Ya Mama: Dishin The Dirt?.

The show opened with what could have been a scene from ?Jerry Springer?, but without the bouncers.

It saw Dinah (Kathy Ann Paynter) being screamed at by her sister Muriel (Shawnette Griffith) about the fact that she was pregnant for a married man, whose wife was also pregnant. Aside from all of this he also had a another mistress, Tiffany.

The entire aim of the play was for the sisters to become self-sufficient and independent of mama?s nest. It also touched on mama?s best friend, Aunt Alinda (Leighsa Darrell-Augustus) who was trying to get her drinking problem under control.

Essentially, it was a learning curve of what not to do in your life on the one hand, while on the other it was also an example of doing things right.

The character of Prudy (Rhonda Daniels) was determined that she was going to get a divorce from newcomer Dennis (Perry Trott). In a few cases to get his point across, he manhandled her by sweeping her up into his arms and carrying her out of the door to make his point. Usually this is not a scene that I would agree with, but pre-menstrual Prudy made him do it.

Their characters were well executed and Dennis did very well as a first-timer.

Darlene (Melody Albouy) bounced about the stage with the energy of a child. Her character was determined that she would be mama?s baby forever, while imitating Prudy. Darlene soon found her feet when she had to go and live with sister Dinah and the new baby that did what new babies do ? cry all night.

Lovie (Laurel Burns) was the soundest of the sisters on the moving out front. Her decision was to purchase a house for herself and move out.

Also most of the acts took place at mama?s house, bar one, which was filmed. It was another ?Jerry Springer? moment when Dinah and the wife?s baby were about to be christened ? in the same church ? at the same time.

The father was between his wife and his mistress during this scene, which was hilarious and quite unexpected. The horror and embarrassment on the faces of everyone at the Greater Smith Hill Church was worth it and realistic.

All in all the final instalment, although lengthy, was incredibly funny and well worth attending.
