Family fun at Easter
What began as a simple kite competition 33 years ago has grown into a full fledged family fun day.
Southampton Rangers Sports Club will be staging their annual community fun day again this Good Friday at the club.
Organiser, Clarence Raynor has urged all members of the Southampton community to come out and join in on a free day of fun, refreshments and music.
He also told the Royal Gazette how the event started out.
"When I was young, I used to make kites and give them away to children around the yard. When the club opened back in 1964, two years later, I decided that we should have a kite contest, because I knew a lot of the kids around the neighbourhood."
"It started off just as a kite contest, but down through the years it has grown. Now we have games for the kids and music and prizes."
Activities start 11 a.m.
In addition to the traditional kite competition, there will also be numerous other sporting activities for children while adults can try their hand at shooting marbles. Terry Raynor is the event's undisputed king of kites.
The event concludes at 6 p.m. and all are welcomed to attend.
