ARTS OF THE SEA

Learn about: Seagull boat building, boat restoration, fitted dinghies, fishing crafts, sail repairing, aquarium, undersea diving skills, model boat making.

ARTS OF THE LAND

Learn about: Herb, vegetable and decorative flower gardening, beekeeping, flower arranging, house building, stone wall making, stone cutting, cedar crafts, furniture making.

ARTS OF HOSPITALITY

4Bermuda Kitchen: Bermudian cooking demonstrations, including fish dishes, local vegetables, fruit, preserves, Portuguese dishes, candy making, tea breads and more.

4Bermuda Guest House: Demonstrations and conversations on the arts and skills of hospitality, including front of house, show tending, swizzle parties, guest serves as performance art, catering Bermuda weddings, and arts of the guest house.

ARTS OF PLAY

Learn about: Bermuda' traditional games and playtime activities: marbles, kite making, ring games, backyard cricket, hop scotch and more.

Grass Roots Cricket: Demonstrations, clinics, workshops and discussions with cricket legends.

FAMILY AND COMMUNITY

CONNECTIONS

See and learn about: Demonstrations and workshops including kite making, gombey costume making, Azorean needlework, decorative doll making, various home crafts, herb gardening and use, family and community genealogy and folklore, toy making and children's games.

Participants: Jolene Bean (genealogist/family folklorist), Violet Brangman (Lodge traditions/oral historian), Eugene Lima (Azorean home/holiday traditions), William Outerbridge (genealogy).

CRAFTS

Learn about: Arts of celebration and home crafts including gombey regalia, Azorean needlework, banana dolls, and more.

Participants: Ronnie Chameau (Banana doll maker), Llewellyn Emery (cedar craftsman), Genevieve Escolastica (Portuguese crochet artist), Dennis Place (gombey mask/drum maker), Chesley Trott (cedar sculptor), Irwin Trott (gombey mask maker), Janice Tucker (gombey costume maker).

ARTS OF PERFORMANCE AND CELEBRATION

Listen to: Daily performances including jazz, reggae, sacred music, military and community bands, calypso and gombeys. Special performances: April 18: Sacred Music in Bermuda, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. April 19: Home Grown Riddims - Bermudian Reggae, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. April 20: Calypso, Not the Um Um, Jazz, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Reggae: Ras Mykkal (dub poet), Joseph (Ras Giorgis) Tucker, Carlton (Jr.C) Welch (gospel reggae), Truneh & Fires of Africa. Sacred Music: Apex 4 Quartet, Toni Robinson, Rejoice, Voices of Triumph, Word. Satire: Not the Um Um Players. Spoken word: Mosaic.

Topics: Presenters and speakers from all walks of life will cover a wide range of subjects on all facets of Bermudian life. For details and times see advertisement in today's edition.

EDUCATION WORKSHOPS

April 18 - Sharing Your Memories: Workshop for seniors. Learn how to share your valuable memories and skills with school children. (2 p.m. to 3 p.m.)

April 19 - Using Oral History in the Classroom: Workshop for teachers. Use oral history techniques to tap into the vast knowledge of Bermuda tradition bearers. Learn the steps and skill necessary for conducting interviews, forming questions, and using the information in your classroom. (11 a.m. to 12 noon, and 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.)

April 20 - Collecting Family Folklore: Workshop for families. Learn who to interview, what to collect, and how to preserve your previous family traditions. (11 a.m. to 12 noon and 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.)
