Fort George keeps watch over Old Town

Fort George towers above St. George's on Rich's Mount, the highest hill in St. George's, that was chosen by Governor Richard Moore in 1612 as the site for a lookout tower.
Fort George was built in 1788 and Rich's Mount continued to serve as a signal station when a semaphore telegraph was set up at the fort. In the 1840s, the fort was rebuilt and two 25-ton guns were mounted on the ramparts.
As the headquarters of Bermuda Harbour Radio, Fort George continues to serve as a lookout station as it did in the earliest days of the Island's history.
Today you can scan the horizon from the fort's ramparts as watchmen did over 300 years ago, and enjoy panoramic views of the Town of St. George.
