Garden Club will help students grow

The Garden Club's scholarship winners.

The Garden Club of Bermuda annual scholarship awards were presented to six Bermudian recipients at a ceremony held last week at the Vine Garden of the Botanical Gardens.

These scholarships are awarded annually to Bermudian students pursuing studies and careers in horticultural related fields.

The scholarships, which are funded by the Dorothy and Bayfield Clarke Memorial Fund, the Freer Cox Memorial Fund and the proceeds of The Garden Club of Bermuda?s Spring Open Houses and Gardens programme, have been awarded annually since 1957.

The recipients were Peter Lee, attending Writtle College, James Richardson, attending the New York Botanical School of Horticulture, James Munro, attending University of California, Susanna Mello, attending the University of Toronto, Stefan Smith attending Andrews University and Fiona Doe attending Guildford University.

The Garden Club of Bermuda ?s long term commitment the scholarship programme for Bermudians was recently recognised by the Bermuda National Trust when Mrs. Janet Owner, President and Mrs Sally Godet, Vice President accepted a 2005 Environment Award on the club?s behalf.
