Got Phlegm is 'udder' satire

A film for the vegetarians ‘Got Phlegm' is a satire of the dairy industry of America's ‘got milk' campaign.

In under a minute, writer Carlos Alazraqui and director Nicholas Slapkaris drive home the point that cows' milk is not as good for the body as the dairy farmers would have everyone believe. They propose the “udder white milk”.

Shot as if in crescendo, the film begins with a slight clatter sound and a whispering chant on a close shot in a kitchen from the 1950s. The camera angle widens and as it does the clatter increases and the whispering becomes more distinct with the voices chanting “We love milk”. Then the shot pulls out even further and we see a very bloated even constipated young boy with a half finished glass of milk, a glazed look in his eyes and a milk moustache. He's got phlegm.

So the story is told more with the angle of the camera and the volume and intensity of the sound. There is no dialogue. But the story is clearly that we were told back in the 50s and 60s that milk is good for you and you should drink it. And today the dairy industry is screaming it everywhere, but is it true. You may be lactose intolerant. It can cause mucous to build up in your system - you'll have phlegm.
