Great party ? shame about drink prices!
Three levels, two parties, one lounge ? The Complex Party, the official launch of Bermuda's newest venue and a New Year's Eve experience that was certainly not one to miss.
Blu Promotions in conjunction with Unite' threw this amazing party at Tuscany Restaurant, Tuscany Gallery and Square One creating what organisers called "clubbing elegance". Party goers were treated to complimentary hors d' oeuvres from Tuscany restaurant and enjoyed bowls filled with lollipops, skittles and starburst candies.
DJ Chubb and DJ Jermaine were on hand to spin the hottest tunes for everyone to dance to.
The most exciting part of the party was the three different levels. If you wanted to relax and sip champagne with your sweetie of the night you could do so in the champagne lounge ? the first level ? which was a relaxing environment.
The hottest hip-hop and reggae was played in the second level ? Tuscany Restaurant ? where people could dance to their favourite songs.
The third level ? Square One ? was the best in my opinion and the most fun. The DJ played a variety of music focusing on soca, reggae, and some techno/dance music.
Even though there were three levels, each one was crowded with people looking for a fun way to start the new year. The venue had quite a few cash bars so that everyone could buy as many drinks as they wanted. The downside was that drinks were $10 a ticket ? ridiculously overpriced in my opinion. For paying $70 a ticket, at least one or two drink tickets should have been included in the purchase. If they didn't want to include drink tickets, the drinks should have been more affordable. I think it is crazy to pay $10 for a glass of white zinfandel.
However, the great thing about this party was that if you weren't enjoying one party you could go up or down a few steps and go to another one. If you wanted a more intimate scene you could go to the champagne lounge.
The best part of the night for me came before midnight. I was expecting to have fun, but I didn't think the DJs would play that great a selection of music. The third level was supposed to be techno and trance but it turned into soca and reggae which I loved.
The DJ played soca songs like Carnival, Footsteps, Follow The Leader and many more that got the crowd hyped. A few girls even stood up on tables dancing to the music.
The biggest disappointment of the night was the lack of a good countdown. At five minutes until 12 I looked at my watch but continued dancing to the beautiful soca rhythms. At midnight I looked again but there was no countdown. Everyone was dancing as if midnight was far away. At about five minutes past 12 a countdown began on a projector screen on the wall beginning at four instead of ten. Even though it was really funny I was little upset that the countdown was messed up. However, I did get my New Year's kiss ? you know who you are.
Overall The Complex Party was a great way to bring in 2006. The organisers did an amazing job of planning a fun party where everyone could have a great time. My only suggestion would be to lower drink prices. Blu Promotions and Unite', I'm looking forward to next year.
