Happy birthday to Bermuda Regiment
Life, for some, begins at 40, but for the Bermuda Regiment life began 40 years ago with the amalgamation of the Bermuda Volunteer Rifle Corps and the Bermuda Militia Artillery. With much to celebrate over the ensuing years, the military outfit has now lined up a number of events to commemorate its birthday in style.
Celebrations begin today with an all-ranks cruise from Albouys Point.
October will undoubtedly be a high point with the staging of the Bermuda Tattoo ? an international spectacle of music, dance and military precision ? in the Keepyard at Dockyard on September 21 and September 22.
Billed as "the most spectacular event of its kind in 50 years", the Tattoo will doubtless evoke memories of past tattoos here, while at the same time bringing history to life.
A world-class spectacle of music, international dance and military precision is promised, with units from Canada, the United States, Jamaica and the United Kingdom performing alongside the Bermuda Regiment, the Bermuda Islands Pipe Band, and the National Gombey Troupe.
In addition to the massed bands, dancers and individual artists, Tchaikovsky's renowned "1812 Overture" will be performed to spectacular effect with cannonade and fireworks.
Four events are scheduled to round out the Regimental celebrations in November: a church parade, an invitational golf tournament, a colours ball, and a past and present social at Warwick Camp.
Tickets for the October tattoo are available through www.boxoffice.bm Premium seating in an especially structured arena is $60 and $75 ? a price which includes complimentary return ferry service from Hamilton. General seating is $40 and $50.
