?I want to dress like my daddy?
Wayne Caines admires his father, Michael Arnold Caines? dedication to his family when he was growing up.
?Being a father myself I can imagine how difficult it was to raise three sons?, he said.
Mr. Caines has three siblings, twin brother Dwayne Caines, sister Shereen Caines Ferguson and younger brother Travis Caines.
He said that he is really close with his father now, friends in fact. ?It?s nice to have a daddy who is one of the boys,? Mr. Caines said.
He also said that their relationship has evolved over the years even though it was bad when he was 18 and in college.
Mr. Caines said that his favourite childhood memory of his father was going to the Arboretum to play football and cricket He said another one of his favourite things to do was watch his father get ready for work.
He enjoyed watching him put his outfits together and would think: ?Yeah! That?s what I want to wear when I grow up ? I want to dress like my daddy.?
Mr. Caines said he got his politics and social conscience from his father. He said his father got him and his siblings into current events. They would red Jet magazine and Newsweek every week to learn about the aspects of community involvement.
He said the most important thing he learned from his father was the importance of being there and being at home with the family. He said that his father was always present and had a loving relationship with his mother.
?He?s a humble man, which I take after but he?s also quiet and likes to giggle.?
Mr. Caines said his father had a large presence and he was always at home with his family.
He also said that his father was very strict and ?intolerant of me and my brother?s tomfoolery?.
?My father and mother sacrificed everything so that their four kids could go through college,? he said, adding: ?He always wanted to be rolled up into his children?s success.?
Mr. Caines said his father taught him that one does not have to be the life of the party and the most important things are being a good father and a role model.
?My father was my role model,? he said. ?He was honest and provided for his family. He wasn?t a perfect man but he was my role model.?
According to Mr. Caines, he has acquired some of his father?s mannerisms.
He said he looks identical to him but that doesn?t help because he has a twin. He said when his father leaves a room he always says ?all the best.?
Now Mr. Caines finds himself saying ?all the best? when he leaves a room. He also said that he can?t walk by someone without speaking just like his father.
As far as similar parenting skills, Mr. Caines said that he is a little more patient than his father but just as strict.
