Latino guitarist proves a real PAL

Alex Fox entertains thousands of Latin music lovers at Barr's Bay Park last year.

Latino guitarist and recording star Alex Fox is returning to Bermuda this week by popular demand to give not one but two performances in aid of the cancer charity, PALS.

His first, this Friday, will be the highlight of a gala dinner/dance in the Harbourview ballroom of the Fairmont Hamilton Princess Hotel. Mr. Fox will be accompanied by his five-piece band, which includes sons Sebastian and David, and two Latin dancers.

The evening will begin with cocktails on the hotel terrace at 7 p.m., and will be followed by dinner at 8 p.m.

The programme will also feature three local musical acts, all of whom are donating their services. They are: saxophonist Aaron Daniels; Sandy Butterfield's steel pan group, and The Front Line band (Graham Maule, trombone; Tony Bari, piano; Ronnie Lopes, vocals/percussion; Stan Gilbert, bass; David Skinner, guitar; and Howard Rego, drums) so that there will be continuous entertainment throughout the evening.

Thanks to the generosity of the local restaurant, corporate and business community, there will also be a silent auction and raffle of a wide variety of donated items.

Dress is smart casual. Tickets are $225. Many have already been sold, but a limited number are still available at PALS headquarters on Point Finger Road until tomorrow. Tables of eight can be booked.

An anonymous Tucker's Town benefactor is again responsible for bringing Mr. Fox to Bermuda, and is helping to co-sponsor both events at which the popular guitarist is appearing. Friday's event is being co-sponsored by XL Capital and PartnerRe.

Mr. Fox's second performance will be on Saturday, June 26, at Barr's Bay Park, beginning at 7 p.m., during which he will perform the song, ‘Bermuda, Beautiful Bermuda', written by Bermudian Judy Tavares. Again, Mr. Fox will be backed by his five-piece band and dancers. The programme will also include the Bermuda Salsa Dancers and The Front Line band, who are donating their services. The Corporation of Hamilton is a co-sponsor of this event with the anonymous benefactor.

Food and beverages supplied by Tuscany Restaurant and Blue Juice disco bar will be available. The ACE Group of Companies is providing free parking for 100 cars at its global headquarters building on a first come, first served basis. PALS volunteers will be on hand to accept donations at ACE as well as at Barr's Bay Park.

Admission to Saturday's concert is free. Bring a picnic and seating, and enjoy a special night under the stars. In the event of rain, it will be rescheduled for the following evening, Sunday, June 27 at the same time.
