On The Arts Scene August 14
Continuing its long-established reputation for innovative shows and openings, the Parliament Street north location will launch ‘Blue', the second in a trilogy of themed exhibitions, with a lively party on Saturday.
“ ‘Blue' is not just an art exhibition, it is also a hair and fashion show, with a singer or two,” Kafu co-owner and artist Glen Wilks says.
“We will transform everything into a blue space, including a blue night sky, and we will project still and live images onto the back wall of the adjoining bank.
“We are also encouraging people to wear blue.”
Features of the official opening will include clothes from Stefanel, an ice sculpture, blue vodka jello, blue cocktails and a cash bar.
DJ Beatnik will spin dance music from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.
The event is sponsored by Bacardi.
More than eight Bermuda artists are exhibiting.
Of the official opening Mr. Wilks says: “We want to create a multi-faceted experience of music, art, fashion, and poetry.”
The concept follows last year's successful series of similar events wherein artists were encouraged to share their various talents, and the public was encouraged to visit the gallery and experience them.
“This year we thought we would do three shows along the same lines as last year featuring art, poetry, and music as different forms of expression,” Mr.Wilks says.
“They are more or less a continuation of last year's Kafu Vibrations, which were held on alternate Fridays and took quite a bit of effort to produce.”
This year's less hectic schedule opened with ‘Red', which closes on Friday.
‘Blue' will continue through August 29, and the Part III of the trilogy, ‘Black', will open on September 21, when different cultures and styles will be mixed along Latin lines and include salsa, soca and samba music.
Tickets for the opening ($35 in advance, $40 at the door and including three free drinks) can be purchased at 27th Century Boutique, The Edge and Stefanel.
Tickets for Kafu members ($20 including two free drinks) are available at the gallery.
