Pre-Bermuda Day Parade ready to go

Staff and clients from the Mid-Atlantic Wellness Institute will host the 15th Annual Pre-Bermuda Day Parade on Thursday at 6 p.m. on Devon Springs Road.

The theme for this year?s event is ?Capturing the Movies,? and clients from eight community homes will create costumes and floats highlighting films such as Memoirs of a Geisha, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and Lord of the Rings.

There will be a long list of live entertainers, including the Prospect Twirlers and Ensemble Band, the PHC Majorettes and Drum Corporation, the Bermuda Island Pipe Band, the H and H Gombeys, the Bermuda Motor Cross Club, the Suavemente and Friends (biker Girls and Boys), the National Drumline Academy and the Hamilton Pathfinders and Drum Corps.

The festivities include refreshments provided by Big Mama, Volunteer Services and New African Food Stalls, as well as Lickety Split. Music will be hosted by Vincent Savery?s ?Shock and Lust?.

A large crowd of over 1,000 is anticipated in support of this community event, originally founded in 1991.

At that time, staff wanted to make sure clients were included in Heritage Day celebrations and decided to host their own parade.

Over the years, the parade has grown in popularity and attendance and is now a featured function in its own right.

Patrice Dill, Director for MWI said: ?The public is encouraged to join us for this community event. This is a family occasion, with great entertainment, food and music. There will be something for everyone.?

Working together for the past several weeks, they have produced festive costumes and floats that are decorative, original and colourful.

Activities coordinator Juliette Basden said: ?Our floats and costumes look fantastic.

?Staff and clients have been very creative putting together something special this year.?
